This section is a part of the chapter: Serum Zinc and Vitamin A Levels in Tuberculosis Patients: A Comprehensive Study

Zinc plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy immune system. Deficiency in zinc can weaken immune functions, including reduced ability to fight infections like tuberculosis (TB). It affects the body’s ability to metabolize vitamin A, which is important for TB treatment, and also damages lung tissues during inflammation. Zinc deficiency has been linked to lower zinc levels in patients with TB, particularly in children, and can worsen the progression of the disease. Zinc supplementation may help improve immune function and support recovery in people with TB, particularly in lung infections.
