Researchers identified a plant from the Ericaceae family as Vaccinium varingiaefolium at Universitas Indonesia. They processed the plant’s dried leaves into a powder and extracted it using 70% ethanol, resulting in a thick reddish-brown extract. Tests showed it had a sour pH of 3.29, likely due to flavonoids and anthocyanins. Various characteristics like color, moisture, solubility, and metal content were measured to ensure quality. This type of research helps standardize herbal extracts for safe use in medicine and supplements, showing how traditional plant studies remain crucial even in the era of modern science.
